I came across this quote from Spencer Kagan that speaks to student engagement in the classroom.  I am interested to know what others think of what he has to say.  The quote follows, please take a moment to post your thoughts.  ~ Thanks!  Libby

There is a direct connection between student participation, engagement, communication and subsequent learning. ~Spencer Kagan

I absolutely agree with this quote! Spencer Kagan hits it right on the mark! We can spend years developing good "plans" for our classrooms and students, but if we fail to consider what will cause them to be truly engaged in the learning, then ultimately we fail. Our students need to take the concept and play with it. They need to be able to get in there and get their hands dirty! To mule over the concepts and standards that we want to teach them and apply them to really life situations that have meaning. If our students fail to engage, all we are doing is talking!

Happy Teaching!

Absolutely! The formula is obvious!
engagement + participation + communication = learning
